Why Health Testing Matters: Building a Foundation of Wellness

Health testing is the cornerstone of ethical breeding. At Cardinal's Crossing, we follow ALAA and WALA guidelines to ensure our breeding dogs are thoroughly screened for heritable conditions, giving every puppy the best possible start in life.

What We Test For:

  • OFA Hips & Elbows: Checked for dysplasia to ensure proper joint structure.

  • Patellas: Evaluated for luxating kneecaps.

  • Cardiac Screening: Checked by a cardiologist for congenital heart conditions.

  • Thyroid Function: Full thyroid panel to rule out hormonal imbalances.

  • CAER Eye Exam: Annual screenings by a veterinary ophthalmologist.

  • Full DNA Panel (via Embark and/or Orivet):

    • PRA-prcd 

    • EIC (Exercise Induced Collapse)

    • vWD (Von Willebrand’s Disease)

    • IC Locus (Improper Coat)

    • DM (Degenerative Myelopathy)
