Service Dogs
Created for a Purpose: The Role of Australian Labradoodles in Service Work

Australian Labradoodles were originally developed to be allergy-friendly service dogs, and they continue to excel in roles like guide, mobility assistance, medical alert and response, PTSD and psychiatric assistance, and more. Learn about the qualities that make them ideal candidates, how Cardinal’s Crossing supports service dog suitability, and how we expose puppies to foundational experiences that prepare them for future training.
At Cardinal’s Crossing, we believe in purpose-driven breeding. Our mission was inspired by Max, a loyal guide and service dog whose partnership was life-changing, and it continues through Bodhi, whose intelligence, empathy, and steadiness reflect the qualities we value most.
We are passionate about preserving and nurturing the traits that make a truly exceptional working dog—beginning with a strong foundation in structure, temperament, and early development.
What Is A Service Dog?
Service dogs are specially trained to assist individuals with disabilities by performing specific, task-based work. These tasks vary by need—from guiding, retrieving items, and opening doors to alerting to medical conditions or interrupting panic attacks. Unlike emotional support or therapy dogs, service dogs have full public access rights under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act).

Why Australian Labradoodles?

Laying the Foundation for a Life as a Service Dog

From the very beginning, we thoughtfully expose our puppies to experiences that support confidence, curiosity, and adaptability. Through early neurological stimulation, socialization, and close observation of temperament, we help shape dogs with the potential to succeed in service roles.
While not every puppy is destined to become a service dog, we are proud to provide the structure and support that make it possible and to contribute to the early journey of dogs who may go on to change lives.
